More Information on Ice Control
Andemar provides a range of the highest-quality de-icers available on the market. At Andemar Dust and Ice Control Ltd., we take pride in offering comprehensive education and technical support for all our liquid de-icers, helping our customers save time and money. We offer several effective solutions for managing snow and ice, including Pre-Wetting, Pre-Event Anti-Icing, and Post-Event De-Icing.
Liquid Calcium Chloride Brine: The Heat Advantage
One of the unique benefits of Liquid Calcium Chloride Brine is that it generates heat as it dissolves. This heat makes it much more effective at breaking down tough, packed snow and ice, especially on hard surfaces. Unlike other standard de-icers that need external heat to dissolve, Liquid Calcium Chloride Brine does the work for you!

Here’s how it compares to other de-icing products in terms of heat generation:
-
Liquid Calcium Chloride Brine: +290 BTUs of heat (strongest)
-
Magnesium Chloride: +125 BTUs
-
Sodium Chloride (regular salt): -39 BTUs (no heat)

Why Is Heat Important?
The heat created by Liquid Calcium Chloride Brine helps melt ice faster and keeps working longer. This is especially helpful for hard-packed snow or ice, as it can break through stubborn layers more efficiently than other de-icers.
More Effective and Longer-Lasting
Liquid Calcium Chloride Brine also has a hygroscopic property—meaning it absorbs moisture from the air. This helps keep the salt on the pavement longer, even after the water has evaporated or been moved by traffic. By contrast, regular salt dries up and can easily blow away, making it less effective.
In research studies, Liquid Calcium Chloride Brine consistently outperformed other de-icers:
-
9.5% to 71.4% more effective than magnesium chloride
-
37.5% more effective than sodium chloride
